Fraser Range (WA) - via Norseman / Hyden Road

We left our home in Australind at around 4:00am on the 5th April 2012 on a long awaited adventure to the red centre of Australia. We planned to get there via Lake Eyre on the Oodnadatta Track.
It was a balmy morning and we were pretty excited to get on the road. We headed for Fraser Range which is a working station / caravan park about 100 k's east of Norseman to camp up for our first night. It also happened to be good Friday.
The route we took was through the Norseman / Hyden road which consists of several hundred kilometres of dirt. The Mitsubishi Triton has a 75 litre tank, so we decided to fuel up at Williams and wait until Norseman for our next fuel up.
Half way across the Norseman / Hyden Road I needed to tip some fuel into the ute from one of my 3 jerry cans.

As usual, the road was in pretty good condition.

We stopped at Lake Johnston for lunch. It was so peaceful we considered camping there for the night, but it was still only early so we decided to push on for Fraser Range.
Lake Johnston is a large salt lake situated halfway along the Norseman / Hyden road. It has a dedicated spot for camping as well as a day use area.

At about 4:00pm we arrived at Fraser Range caravan park on the Eyre Highway.

Setting up the Tvan

After we set up the camper, we took a stroll to the top of a small hilltop lookout. It's a great place to have a drink and watch the sun go down.

Pauline then cooked some fish in fresh tomato's and lemon slices on the BBQ. It was sensational!

After a long day on the road we called it a night.
